眾所皆知美國總統 Barack Obama 是個超級球迷，支持芝加哥白襪隊和公牛隊，他不但喜歡看球，也喜歡打籃球。但你有想過他在 NBA 球場上和明星較量嗎？
美國時間本週二在白宮請願網站上出現了「一人一票送 Obama 進明星賽」的申請，到今年 2 月 13 前，需要十萬人參與連署。
“The 2017 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game will be held on February 17, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina. As of the publishing of this petition, former Education Secretary Arne Duncan holds the record for most points scored in a Celebrity Game with 20.”
「2017 年的 NBA 全明星賽名人賽將會在明年 2 月 17 日在北卡羅來納州夏洛特市舉行。在提交這份連署書時，名人賽最高得分紀錄是前教育部長 Arne Duncan 的 20 分」
“petition” 「請願書」、「連署書」，動詞可以用 “publish” 「發佈」或是 “file” 「提出」。「離婚協議書」”divorce petition” 也是這個字。若是一般的「申請書」則是 “application”，和我們手機、電腦中的「應用程式」是同一個字，簡稱為 “app”（千萬不要念 A-P-P）。
一月初剛卸任的教育部長 Arne Duncan 是林書豪的大學長，曾經擔任哈佛籃球校隊隊長，並獲得全美第一隊的殊榮（Academic All-American）。在 1987 年到 1991 年間，Duncan 還甚至在澳洲打過職籃。Obama 也不是省油的燈，在夏威夷唸 Punahou 高中時，他也是籃球校隊的一員。

“soft record” 「不難達到的紀錄」，”soft” 在這裡不能說是「軟的」，而是「容易的」、「輕鬆的」。在轉播中，可能會聽到 “soft hand” ，在英文中指的不是「軟手」，而是「靈活的手」。
例句：
“Ozzie Smith showed off his soft hands by catching the groundball on an in-between hop.”
「Ozzie Smith 用靈巧雙手處理一個近身彈跳」
“soft” 也有「非強制的」之意，相對於 “hard deadline” 「最終的截止日」，「表定截止日」”soft deadline” 之後還是可能有通融的可能性。

在這篇文章時，才只有約 1000 人參與連署，離目標的 10 萬人還有一段距離，但在媒體大輛曝光的情況下，迫於輿論壓力，屆時已經卸任的 Obama 也有可能主動參加明星賽。
