季賽打出全聯盟次佳的 67 勝 15 敗的聖安東奧馬刺隊，在季後賽第二輪以 2 比 4 輸給奧克拉荷馬雷霆隊，慘遭淘汰。
連續兩年未能打進西區冠軍賽，連許多非馬刺迷球迷都感到惋惜，但擔任馬刺隊總教練 20 載的 Gregg Popovich 認為，不過就是一場比賽而已。
Popovich 在賽後記者會不改大砲本色，尖銳地回答記者提問，其中四段對話在網路上造成瘋傳，一起來看看「波總」到底說了哪些。

記者：”Obviously the outcome didn’t come in your favor, but…”
「很明顯地，結局並不如你所願，但是…」
Pop：”That’s obvious. Yes. You’re right on it, as usual.”
「顯而易見，是的，一如往常地，你說的對極了」
記者： “But are you happy with the fight your team showed in the fourth quarter?”
「但是你對於馬刺隊在第四節仍奮戰到底感到高興嗎？」
Pop：”Happy isn’t really a word that does anything for me.”
「高興這個字對我來說從來沒有意義」
記者：”I’m sorry.”
「我錯了」
“in someone’s favor” 是「照某人的期望」，”favor” 是「喜好」的意思。作為名詞，則有「恩惠」之意，當你需要別人幫忙時，可以說 “Can you do me a favor?” 「你可以幫我一個忙嗎？」

記者：”What do you think turned the series around for them after Game 1?”
「對於這系列賽在第一場後戰局情勢改變，你有什麼看法？」
Pop：”Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m not that smart. We just lost. Ask Billy [Donovan]. He’ll figure it out.”
「噢，我不知道，我真的不知道。我沒那麼聰明。就是輸掉系列賽了，問問雷霆隊總教練 Billy Donovan 吧，他會想出一套說詞的」
“turn around” 「改變」、「翻轉」。可以用在比賽情勢或是物體的「翻轉」。生活中會遇到開車「迴轉」也是用 “turn around” 這個字，或是更簡單的 “U-turn”「像 U 字母般迴轉」。

記者：”Do you have any regrets about not going small earlier?”
「你會後悔沒有早點執行小球戰術嗎？」
Pop：”No. Are you coaching now? You should try not to do that. You should try not to do that.”
「現在是換你在帶球隊嗎？別了吧，你最好不要這樣做」
記者：”I know that. I learned that a long time ago.”
「我知道，我很久以前就學到教訓了」
“go small” 「執行小球戰術」，通常指的是以速度取得優勢的進攻模式，常見的手段是快攻與跑轟，馬刺隊在 Popovich 執教下，多是以半場進攻為主的戰術，並不是小球戰術的信仰者。
南非黑人前總統 Nelson Mandela 曾經說到
「如果安於現狀，生命就會失去應有的熱情。」（ “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”）
也用到 “play small”，但這裡說的是「打安全牌」。

記者：”Right before the fourth quarter, I noticed you were talking to Tim [Duncan] for a while. Would you mind sharing what you said to him and just what it meant?”
「在第四節比賽前，我注意到你和 Tim Duncan 談了一會，你可以分享一下說了什麼嗎？」
Pop：”Really? Really? You think I’m going to share what I spoke to Tim about?”
「真的嗎？你真的想聽？你認爲我會告訴你我和 Tim 說了什麼？」
記者：”Well, there’s a chance.”
「好吧，總是要試著問問看」
Pop：”I guess you have to ask, right?”
「我想你很想知道答案吧？」
記者：”You have to shoot the shot, right?”
「你得出手才有機會進球吧？」
Pop：”Exactly. It doesn’t go in unless you shoot it.”
「是的，沒出手球是不會進的」
記者：”Gotta shoot it.”
「那我一定要問問看」
Pop：”No. I’m not going to tell you.”
「我不會告訴你的」
“there’s a chance” 「或許有機會」、「試試看」，在這裡 “chance” 也可以換成 “shot”「嘗試」，正好和後面的 “shot” 「投籃」相同。
對於 Popovich 這樣的「挖苦」記者的行為，許多媒體用的是 “roast”「砲轟」、”grill” 「盤問」這兩個字，原本的意思都跟烹飪有關，分別是「烘烤」和「燒烤」。也有新聞用 “go full” 「火力全開」來形容 Popovich 在本季最後一次賽後記者會的表現。
下次如果你輸球，可以想想 Popovich 對於記者的回應，或許會好過一點。
「最近美國太空總署又發現可以適合居住的星球，你知道宇宙總共有多少這樣的星球嗎？1200 個！只不過有一些人輸了球賽，沒什麼大不了的」，Popovich 這樣回應。
